Sunshine Youth Services,
Inc. is a youth-serving company established in 1999 by Jim Hill, President, and
Richard Semancik, CEO. The partnership of Hill and Semancik emphasizes a "hands
on" approach to management and prides itself on being responsive to the needs
of youth, their families, stakeholders and the community.
Sunshine Youth Services operates three moderate-risk residential commitment programs
in Central Florida for youth ages 12 to 18:
Gulf and Lake Academy, a 99-bed program, provides specialized mental health treatment
services for 39 adolescent males (Gulf Academy) and 60 adolescent females (Lake
Academy). Riverside Academy is a 150-bed program that provides specialized substance
abuse treatment services for adolescent males. Live Oak Academy, a 60-bed program,
provides behavioral and mental health treatment services for adolescent females.
All three are contracted to provide services with and receive referrals from the
Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. Program youth are provided a system of
rehabilitative services in a therapeutic environment based on a restorative justice
model that increases youth's accountability and competency development while ensuring
public safety.
